1958 Ashley 1172
Registration No. 180 YUL
formerly
Registration No. CS 6564
2011 Historic Specials Day at Burfold
I found this Ashley 1172 shown in grey primer in the company of a Yellow Ashley Sportiva and a Green Ashley 1172, all on display at the 2011 Historic Specials Day at Burfold in the Cotswolds this was back in November 2011.
At the time I was following the trail of the Sportiva so as a side note on the final webpage I added a request that if anyone had any info on the others to please let me know.
(Both of the other Ashley's are now recorded on this site.)

Then in March 2013 I was chasing a lead on the Ashley 213 YPF and had a bit of luck on two fronts.
Firstly I find the cars again at the same show but this time the Sportiva is showing it's registration No.

And the Green 1172 is half showing it's registration No.
I then follow up on a email to me that indicates an Ashley restoration by
Autotune (Riston) Ltd which looks very much like the Green Ashley 1172,
So a message to them asking if it's the same car results in another email to me from Adam, which stated:
Yes, it is the same car or should I say was until it was rebuilt, it now has a Rover V8 under the bonnet.
The car is still registered 213 YPF, it does not belong to me the owner is I'm sure called Spenser.
I own the 1172 in primer on the picture, it is now blue with registration No - 180 YUL (previously CS 6564), a 1939 Ayrshire number but I have very little information about car before I took ownership in 2008 Apart from it spending just over 30 years outside on a farm is Falkirk. Please let me know if you would like pictures.
Which I did of course and Adam duly supplied them with an email full of new information and a request for old information on the cars early history as shown below.

Ashley as first found by Adam after 30 years on local farm
Hi Ivor,
I have attached a couple of pics before and after and would much
appreciate it if you could appeal for any information about this car whilst registered as
CS 6564 or even the donor vehicle.

The reason for the change of plates is because the DVLA destroyed all paper records after going computerized in the 70's so anybody trying to claim a vehicles registration number without any documentation will be given an age related number unless you can provide a buff style log book, old tax disc, mot, etc, none of which I could find.
Even after trawling the Internet, contacting a scrap yard where I was tipped off it once changed hands and putting an advert in a newspaper local to where the car was found.
Thanks, Adam

Hi Ivor,
Very sorry for late reply, I have enclosed some more before and after photos hope they are ok?
This is the state I found my now restored Ashley in August 2008.
She has undergone extensive chassis and body repair, a brand new steel floor, replacement 100e engine with aquaplane cam, head, manifolds and twin SU's also a modern cooling system.
The steering box has been converted to 107e and the fairly standard suspension has been complimented with rear panhard rod and front adjustable dampers utilising the existing telescopic damper conversion.
As there was no interior with the car new seats were constructed then covered in blue leather and period instruments were fitted. after a 4 year restoration it fills my Father and I with pride to see such a rare and beautiful sports car saved from the scrap yard and roadworthy once more.
It would be much appreciated if anybody could give me some information on this cars history prior to August 2008 she was originally registered
CS 6564, a 1939 Ayrshire plate and I know the car sat on a farm in Falkirk, Scotland for 30 years before I purchased her although the car was supplied in standard red gel coat it looks as though it could have been painted white at some point.
The brass id plate on the bulkhead reads Body No 1823.
A long shot I know but the little details might help jog
someone's memory.
Thanks Adam.

If you have any other information about this Ashley 1172 prior to August 2008, when it was registered as CS 6564 please email me so that we can help Adam find out any of it's previous history, all of which I will pass on to Adam.

This article was found by another farm found Ashley 1172 owner.
On this website as
219 GKR and sent to me in case I had not seen it, which I had not.
Thanks Andrew.
Current DVLA information 1/8/2014
The vehicle details for: FORD - 180 YUL are:
Date of Liability 01 08 2015
Date of First Registration 01 08 2012
Year of Manufacture 1953*
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1172cc
CO2 Emissions 0g/Km
Fuel Type PETROL
Export Marker N
Vehicle Status Licence Not Due
Vehicle Colour BLUE
Vehicle Type Approval Not Available
*I am a little surprised to see 1953 stated as the Year of Manufacture as the CS 6564 donor car registration is listed as 1937 and the Ashley 1172 bodyshell was not launched until 1958.
Could it be that somewhere along the past history of this car someone wrote 1958 but the 8 was mistaken as a 3
by somebody else transferring the date to the official document, I guess we will never know!
This next article came to me via Dik, an Australian living in UK and about to buy an Ashley Sportiva, he saw it in the August 2014 Classics Monthly and thought I would be interested,
