Registration No. 965 WMK
In February 2021 this
photo of an Ashley 1172, Registration No. 965 WMK
was sent to me by Nick Stern, it had been built by his
late father Ron Stern.
He had found this picture in some old family photos
and his father built it probably around 1960/61.

A great looking Ashley 1172, his dad must have put a
lot of effort into it.
His registration indicates that he registered it between
July 1959 to March 1960 and registered it with the
Middlesex County Council.
I replied that I would like to add his Dad's Ashley to my website,
also any more photo‘s and any details about the car that I could use would be greatly appreciated.

I got Nick's reply the next day:
Hi Ivor, thanks for the reply. Yes please feel free to add it to the site. Being registered in Middlesex sounds right. I believe he built it in his parents, ( my grandparents ), garage in Tottenham N17.
There should be a full side on view photo somewhere, I'll ask my brothers. Sadly my father passed away 10 years ago.
I recall them telling us that my mother would sit in the car, in the garage doing her knitting whilst he was working on it. It's the only way she got to spend time with him.
I seem to recall him saying the company that produced it were in Epping Forest near the Robin Hood roundabout. Does this sound correct?
Ivor, I can't recall whether my father's car was a Coupe or hardtop.
I'm trying to locate the side on photo, his name was Ron Stern.
Here's a picture of my father getting into the car.

Nick's Dad was right about the Bodyshells being made near the Robin Hood PH, next to it was a garage and workshop which was used as the Ashley Laminates factory for awhile.

Ron Stern's story is much like my own experience, I built my Ashley Sportiva at my Mum & Dad's house in Edmonton N9, as I was living there being only 15 when I started it with Dad's help, I had no wife to worry about then, but she did get to drive in it a few years after I finished it and before we went to Oz to live.
