1960 Ashley 1172
Coupe
UK Registration No: SAD 265G
Originally seen for sale on the internet in June 2008, with the car located in Freiburg, Germany.
It was advertised incorrectly as an Ashley Sportiva whereas it was obviously an Ashley 1172 Coupé.
There are also other inaccuracies in the data given in the advert that clearly show a lack of understanding of the Ashley Specials of the 1960's.
The registration No.SAD & the suffix "G" indicates that the car has been re-registered in 1968/69, in Gloucestershire UK,
if anyone knows the original registration No.
please contact me on email at bottom of page
as I would be very interested to know.

September 2012
As the June 2008 "For Sale" advert mentioned the Fairthorpe Sports Car Club, I contacted their Tornado Registrar to see if they could help with details of the cars previous history, they replied with what details they could, as shown below.
In general we first heard of SAD 265G in 1994 and it has always been thought to have a Tornado Typhoon chassis and the number was thought to be T5005.
From 1994 to 2004 the car went through 4 owners, all of whom came from the West of England.
Since that time the car has been on e-bay at least twice and was in Germany when I last heard (2004).
September 2016
It was not until now that I found some previous history of the ownership of this Ashley 1172 dating from around 1993/94
when it was owned by Nick Wickett of Westleigh Rd, Bristol.
He had contacted the FSCC Ashley registrar and gave his details to Ashley file.
He was restoring/rebuilding the car along with his dad Cyril's support and encouragement.
He was the 2nd owner and gave the following details:

The project was well underway and it was to be presented at the
FSCC Historic Specials Display Day at Burford on
August 14th 1994
However in June 1994 Nick's dad died unexpectedly and work slowed
but it was the memory of his dad, his enthusiasm, knowledge and love of Classic cars that he had pasted on that spurred Nick to
finish the restoration and get it to the Burford Display Day
just two months later, which he did.

A couple of years later in June 1996 the Ashley was in the hands of another owner,
David Gibson of Weycroft, Devon.
A collector of early Specials, but I have no other details.
October 2018
I found some history of the current ownership on the internet
when I came across this advert in www.Carandclassic.co.uk
I contacted the seller and emailed him to gain more details
and got this reply:
Hello Ivor,

Hello Ivor,
Thank you for your email concerning my Ashley GT. I bought the car via eBay in June 2009 in none running condition. Therefore I had a lot of work to do:
- engine was overhauled in 2009/2010 with new valves and valve seat inserts, new water-pump and exhaust manifold,
- differential was changed,
- inside fittings were missing completely,
- dashboard was missing, now my own creation,
If you need more information please do not hesitate to contact me again.
Enclosed you can find some pictures of the Ashley.
Best greetings from Bavaria
