this first came to my attention in May 2023

Harriet Timms posted the following message:
My Dad built his own car in the 1950s. These photos (Below) were taken in the Kingsthorpe area of Northampton.
He’s now quiet elderly and often asks about it and what happened to it.
We’ve contacted DVLA but they have no record of the registration.
Just wondering if the power of social media might jog any memories of who might have bought it/owned it/found it.

This posting was shared to me via a number of
facebook friends and contacts so I immediately replied to Harriet,
explaining that I had seen her post & photo's regards
her Dad’s Ashley 1172 and that he registered it with
Northampton CBC sometime between July 1961 & November 1961.
I explained that I was very interested in finding out more about
the car, it’s building, colour of body and anything else her dad could
tell me in order to make a story to add to my website Ashley1172gtcoupe.weebly.com
Also that I would like to publish the story with as
many details and photos as she and her Dad would like to see
on the webpage.
I heard back from Harriet the next day, with the following details:

I heard back from Harriet the next day, with the following details:
I am trying to gather some details from other relatives who were around at the time and may be able to provide a few more details.
I will ask my dad again what he can remember when I see him at the weekend. He finds it quite difficult to remember things but I know the car was definitely Red and its registration was ONH 701.
I will get back to you as soon as I can.
And a few hours later she did:
I did get a few more details from my uncle. He says: “The car was a pre-war Ford 8 or 10. It had transverse spring suspension. The original engine, gearbox and rear axle were the propulsion units.”
I also found out from my mother that apparently my dad part-exchanged the car in 1965 at a garage in the Kingsthorpe area of Northampton.
My dad’s name is Roy Timms. His friend’s name is Roger Burgess.

Knowing the bodyshell was red I was able to convert and repair the B&W photo's to show how it would have looked in the 1960's with the
Ashley Red body colour.
I can now also put names to the guy's working on the car's Ford chassis,
Roy Timms - Owner/Builder-driver
and
Roger Burgess - Friend/Builders-mate.

The very next day I had a reply from Harriet, she had heard more as detailed below:
I heard today from a guy that told me, "he owned a Red Ashley in 1966, he brought it for £10 at Moto Baldet's back lot in Weston Favell, he worked there at the time, he thinks it could be the same car".
He also converted it to twin SU carburettors, but blew the motor up soon after and sold it on, but he cannot remember who too.

Harriet says it sounds like a distinct possibility that it's her dad's car as her Mum remembers the Garage the car was part exchanged
with was in Kingsthorpe Hollow and Harriet remembers it as being
Moto Baldet in the 1980's.
It doesn’t look like a good ending to the Ashley 1172 storyline
but perhaps the guy that did buy it replaced or repaired the motor
and had it back on the road.
Here's hoping he did and that he see's this page
and get's in contact with me.
